Lira Town College has once again demonstrated its growing reputation for excellence in academics and public discourse after being invited to represent Northern Uganda in the 2025 Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Debate Series Grand Finale. The national-level competition will take place from 2nd to 5th December 2025 at Greenhill Academy, Kampala, under the theme “A Safe Digital Future.”
The official invitation, dated 4th November 2025 and signed by the Executive Director of UCC, confirms that Lira Town College emerged among the top schools from the regional rounds of the UCC Debate Series. The team will consist of three debaters, one public speaker, and two patrons, making a total of six representatives who will carry the school’s flag at the national stage. The Commission will provide accommodation, transport, and meals for the duration of the event.
According to the program, teams will arrive and register on Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, followed by the opening ceremony and preliminary debate rounds on Wednesday, 3rd December. The following days will include more debate sessions, panel discussions, and educational visits to technology and communication centers such as UCC, ATC, and MTN. The much-anticipated final debate, award, and closing ceremony will take place on Friday, 5th December 2025, followed by the dinner gala before teams depart the next morning.
This year’s debate theme — “Empowering the Youth for a Safe Digital Future” — reflects UCC’s continued efforts to promote responsible digital citizenship among young people. Through the Debate Series, students are equipped with critical thinking, communication, and digital literacy skills, enabling them to become informed advocates for safe and responsible use of technology.
Lira Town College’s participation in this prestigious event showcases not only the students’ intellectual capacity but also the school’s commitment to holistic education. Over the years, the school has actively engaged in national competitions in science, technology, and debate, earning recognition as a center of excellence in Northern Uganda.
As the team prepares to travel to Kampala, the entire school community expresses pride and confidence in their representatives. The Head Teacher, Mr. Abongo Levi commended the UCC for the opportunity, noting that such platforms empower learners to voice their ideas on national issues and prepare them to be the next generation of leaders and innovators.
The school community eagerly looks forward to a strong performance at the national finals and to bringing the championship trophy home to Lira City.
